Prime Rib Cooking On BBQ

There are many ways to cook prime rib. It can be cooked in the oven, in a smoker, in a deep fryer and on the BBQ. Prime rib cooking on BBQ smells great and the result is succulent meat that has people asking for seconds and thirds. Prime rib cooking on BBQ takes some time, so preparation is the key to a successful meal. Remember that is a very different procedure then preparing your meat in a barbeque smoker

First of all, the meat needs to be warmed up to room temperature, so take the roast out of the refrigerator about two hours before cooking. The beef can be marinated for prime rib cooking on BBQ, but this is an optional step. Marinating adds extra flavor and makes the meat more tender, but since prime rib is already flavorful and tender, many people skip the marinating step.

As the meat approaches room temperature, light up the BBQ. The required cooking time is quite long, so you need about 8 pounds of good quality charcoal for prime rib cooking on BBQ. Wait until the charcoal is well lit and then push them over to the sides – you don’t want the roast to cook directly over the heat source.

Place the prime rib on the grill fat side up. If you have moved the coals to either side of the BBQ you can put the roast in the middle of the grill. Otherwise, place it to one side. Place the cover on the BBQ – prime rib cooking on BBQ requires a good heat build-up under the cover, so you can close the vents and let it sit.

Touch the cover from time to time to make sure it is still hot. If the coals die down you can start them again by re-opening the vents on the top and the bottom of the BBQ. Let the flames build up and then close the vents for prime rib cooking on BBQ.

It may take several hours for prime rib cooking on BBQ. Use a meat thermometer to check its progress - 115 degrees means rare, 125 degrees means medium, and 135 degrees means well done. Let the roast sit for about 10 minutes before serving. Bon appetit!
